Some single phase electric motors require a capacitor for them to work correctly. There are basically two different types, the motor start capacitor or the motor run capacitor. This is a simple job as long as you can get a direct replacement, in this instance the old motor start capacitor had exploded. This was removed and an almost identical one was ordered to replace it.
